Parents/Guardians,

Thank you for your continued support and thank you for raising great kids. We had our back to school assembly this week where many of our students were able to demonstrate skills and talents. It was also a great opportunity for our school to create a positive and safe culture. We want to thank everyone that was involved.

As we observe classrooms these first weeks of school we are excited to see the learning that is happening for each of our students. Our mission at North Davis Jr. High is: Learning First. Every Student. Every Day. Empowered to learn, lead, and belong. We are committed to creating a school where our mission is a reality. Thank you for your support as we work, every day, to make this so. Here are four important messages for this week:

  1. No School on Monday, September 7th (Labor Day).

  2. Reminder of Updated Building Door Opening: Beginning Tuesday September 8th, the doors to North Davis Jr. High will open to students at 7:30 AM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and at 9:30 AM on Wednesdays. Previously, the doors have been opening at 7:00 AM each day. We have made the decision to open the doors later for one important reason: student safety. We do not have adults in the building early enough to appropriately supervise the students who are in the building that early. Our employee's hours do not contractually require them to be in the building that early. In addition to lack of appropriate supervision, over the previous years, there have been many negative incidents that have occurred in the morning due to students being in the building with too much unstructured time. The safety of our students is our highest priority, and we feel that this change will help us better meet that priority.

  3. Picture Day on September 8th and 11th: We will be pulling students from their Language Arts classes on the 8th and 11th for their school pictures.

  4. Reminder for Parent Volunteers for Community Council: We have three parent vacancies on the North Davis Jr. High Community Council for the 2026-2027 school year. We are seeking volunteers/nominations for interested members from our community. Anyone interested should email a short personal bio (used for potential voting, no more than 90 words) to Principal Eric Castro (ercastro@dsdmail.net). There was more information given about the Community Council and it's role in the last "News from the Principal" message, which can be found here.

Thank you, again, for all that you do. We are so happy to work in such a special community with great people.

Eric Castro
